Ski H20 House

Ski H20 House

Construction Start, July 2013

The program called for the design of a new residence for a small family with a 2 young children. The house is cited along the intersection of 2 private water ski lakes located in San Marcos, Texas. The house is aligned with each of these lakes to take advantage of the beautiful views in all directions.

One area of the house is private/semi-private while the main areas are designed for family gatherings and outdoor entertaining. The main focus of the house is the Kitchen and the outdoor BBQ porch. The BBQ Porch is situated along an intersection of each of the 2 ski lakes. The Kitchen is organized so it is the center of attention and is the hub of the house. Views from the Kitchen are unobstructed towards the 2 ski lakes.

The organization of the 2 plans created an interior courtyard that is created for privacy and incorporates native plants and vegetation as well as a Boche’ Ball court.

Large, broad overhangs used throughout allow for natural light to enter the house while still blocking out the harsh Texas sun.

The materials of stucco, stone, cedar and galvanized metals were all used to fuse the house into its native Texas surroundings. Ease of maintenance was all key in the development and selection of interior and exterior materials. All the buildings were oriented to take advantage of the incredible views as well as the almost year round south-easterly breezes.
